Women in Need, a charity that helps rehabilitate women suffering from health and socio-economic problems in India, has a new home on the web.

Founders Leah Sha Pattison and Usha Chandrabhan Patil met in 1997 and established the organization START, which initially operated on the back of a scooter using funds from their own pockets to help women suffering from Leprosy in the city slums of Nagpur, India. START has since come under the umbrella of its sister organization, Women in Need. With a rehabilitation center and better transport, thanks to donations, the charity is now treating many more women who live in Nagpur as well as beyond the city.

WIN has since extended the work initially set up through START and today is able to treat women suffering from mental illness such as Schizophrenia and severe depression, those who have contracted HIV/AIDS, and even women who have been abandoned by their husbands and have no means to support themselves or their children.

The Web site features case studies of the women the group aims to help and also enables people to make donations online.
