Designer to the stars, Naeem Khan, will be honored in May by the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation for his support of diabetes research. According to the Diabetes Research Institute, Khan’s deep connection to diabetes comes from witnessing firsthand the devastating effects diabetes can have on a beloved family member.

Khan, who has dressed such celebrities as Carrie Underwood, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce and such royalty as Queen Noor of Jordan, is this year’s recipient of the “Dare to Dream Award.”

The fourth annual D.R.E.a.M.S. (Diabetes Research Elegance and Modern Sophistication) in the City event will be held at Capitale in Manhattan on Thursday, May. 7. The evening will feature highly rated wines from Wine Spectator, food and a luxury silent auction, as well as a live auction offering many one-of-a-kind items. Proceeds benefit the cure-focused work of the Diabetes Research Institute.

Born in India, Khan cultivated his knowledge of textiles under the watchful eye of his father and grandfather, both of whom are well known throughout the country for designing luxurious clothing worn by the royal families and other social notables. As a teenager, Khan moved to the United States where he apprenticed for fashion house Halston.

In 2003, he launched his collection consisting of tailored cocktail suits, embroidered caftans and glamorous dresses. His gowns are often embellished with beading, mirrors and other specialty treatments that are distinctive to the label.
