India’s serial killer confesses to 10th murder

Buried deep beneath the headlines is this story of a serial killer in Goa, India who has now confessed to ten murders. Nicknamed the ‘dupatta [scarf] killer’, Mahanand Naik lured his victims with promises of marriage.

In 2007 the country was gripped by the gruesome details of the Nithari killers alleged to have sexually abused and killed 15 children and 3 women. They were sentenced to death in 2009.

Kempamma, India’s first woman serial killer, was also sentenced to death in March, 2009. She was convicted of killing 10 women since 1999
