Enduro India Challenge

Have you thought about raising money for charity but just couldn’t think of how to go about it? How about jumping on a motorbike for a 1,200-mile journey across India?

That’s what Jonathan Birch, a former soldier who did stints in Iraq & Oman, is looking to do in January 2010 with the help of Enduro India, which is organizing the trek.

His two-week journey will take him along the Western Ghats mountain range, starting in the west coast resort of Goa and then heading south to Cochin. Jonathan Birch is looking to raise money for Unicef, the Wildlife Conservation Society and Rainbow Trust, a disabled children’s charity.

Over the past six years, about 800 people from all walks of life have left their usual routine to embark on their own personal challenge and, in the process, help others less fortunate through an Enduro India bike tour. Their goal: a 2-week motorbike ride across southern India, covering some of the most beautiful and demanding terrain the area can offer. They have traveled long distances across mountains and desert plains, through protected wildlife reserves and ancient forests.

Set amidst some of India’s most stunning scenery, the Enduro India challenge offers riders the opportunity to explore the diverse regions of Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu on a Royal Enfield Bullet.

In order to participate, riders need to raise a minimum of £4,750 ($7900/- or 370,000 Indian Rupees), which covers all trip expenses, Enduro India wages and running costs, team leaders, medics, mechanics, food, bikes, flights and accommodations.
