The Taj Mahal conservation program – One step forward, two steps back

Good intentions and millions of ruppees later, the conservation efforts of this historic monument  are failing.

Among the reasons – tourism promotion giving land from the green belt to hotel building; population increase in the area; 19,000 trees planted and few have survived; power cuts see diesel generators fired up all around the monument; and a ‘mudpack’ facelift actually did it more harm than good.
