The Brewing Drought Crisis In Northwest India

In Business, Food/Drink, India on July 10, 2009 at 9:56 am

The figures for rain deficit this monsoon are simply staggering – “80 per cent below normal in western Uttar Pradesh, 71 per cent below normal in Punjab, and more than 60 per cent below normal in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand” The Meteorological department is classifying it a full drought situation.

A very bad omen for the beleaguered farmer indeed. No word yet on contingency plans to save the impending crisis.
