Japan Suspends Death Penalty. India, US Among Others Still On ‘Retentionist’ List

2 days into its new government, Japan suspended the death penalty. It joins 2/3rds of the world’s countries that have done so since 1976.

For those keeping track, India, China and the US remain on the list of 58 (now 57) countries that still maintain the death penalty.
