Shyam Benegal Makes Plea To Iran For Acclaimed Filmmaker Jafar Panahi Mumbai Visit.

(Hindustan Times) Making a case for artistic freedom, Shyam Benegal, chairman of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI), has written to the Iranian embassy to let acclaimed filmmaker Jafar Panahi (49) come to the city for the 11th Mumbai Film Festival.

Panahi, an internationally acclaimed award-winning director was arrested on July 30, 2009 at a cemetery while commemorating slain election protesters. In August, Panahi, who was a jury member of the Montreal Film Festival appeared wearing a green scarf in solidarity with protesters challenging the Iranian election results (video below)
