As great team rivalries go, the Mohan Bagan-East Bengal football rivalry goes back 84 years with passions running high on both sides. But it is the year 1975 that Mohan Bagan fans have burnt in their memories – the year that East Bengal gave them a 5-0 drubbing. The year that gave birth to the five finger salute that Bagan fans have never lived down.

Who knew then that a 24-year old Nigerian, only the 3rd non-Indian in the club, would settle that dispute 34 years later?

And so it was yesterday that Nigeria’s Edeh Chidi scored 4 goals for Mohan Bagan, including the winning 5th in the 66th minute.
