Envirofit – 60,000 cookstoves could save India’s rural poor over 900 million rupees ($18M USD)

Sometimes environmental solutions come from the simplest lifestyle changes.

(Watch the video here) Since unveiling its first line of clean cookstoves in May 2008, Envirofit has sold over 60,000 cookstoves in India. Over the next five years these 60K cookstoves could keep over 400,000 tons of CO2 and over 85,000 kg of black carbon from entering the atmosphere, while garnering savings of over 900 million rupees ($18M USD) for some of India’s lowest-income consumers.

  1. I’m glad I found this blog. This is an important story. Sometimes I think we get fixated on the high tech end of green technology. But often the solutions are relatively simple. This is a good example of that. Btw, I think the West could learn a lot from our use of ceiling fans, water coolers and matkas as well. Look forward to coming back here again.

  2. Thank you Hari. You are absolutely right! We could also learn from India’s air drying clothes, bio-fuels, and most importantly not consuming beef as much as we do.
