Leander, The Veteran, Is The Last One Standing At Australian Open

In India, Sports on January 28, 2010 at 10:15 am

Leander Paes is almost considered a Senior with age 37, yet, out of the 7 Indians that participated in this year’s Australian Open, he’s the last one to still be in the tournament.  He’ll be playing the Mixed Doubles Semi-finals with Cara Black tomorrow (Friday), as the number 1 seated team, against the number 7 seated team.  We’ll root for you.

In the mean time, another considered oldie, is back on tour again – Justin Henin from Belgium.  After a 20-months retirement phase, in only her 2nd tournament back, she, 28, is in the Ladie’s Final, playing Serena Williams, 29.  Where are all the 15, 16, 17 year olds?

As someone (Nadja) who turned down two chance of turning pro, one at 13, another at 22, I’m in awe of these players, their endurance, will, and fighting power.  As the Aussie’s would say “Good on ya, mates!”
