‘Kavi’ 2010 Academy award nominated for Best Live Action Short Film

Yes, it is about children in bonded labour.  Yes, it looks and feels like ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.  Yes, it seems to be ‘another’ film about poor kids in living in deplorable squalor in India.

And NO…we cannot stop making these films.  Or sweep it under the proverbial ‘the West revels in Indian ‘poverty porn.’ Because this is the face of modern day slavery.  And it cannot, and must not be allowed to happen on our watch.

KAVI, the film, has been nominated for the 2010 Best Live Action Short Film Academy Award. (hattip LiveJournal)
