Bt Brinjal – “India is shunning safer food,” C. K. Rao

In Environment, Food/Drink, GM Crops, India on March 4, 2010 at 8:06 am

India is shunning safer food,” says C. Kameswara Rao opines in the Wall St Journal. Rao is Executive Secretary of the Foundation for Biotechnology Awareness and Education in Bangalore. His argument is based on two things – (1) the GEAC, India’s national regulatory regime’s tests, and (2) that Bt Brinjal is not harmful because “Bt Brinjal fixes this problem by imparting a systemic tolerance to the shoot and fruit borers” and thus reduces pesticide use.

Therein lies your problem Mr. Rao.

Can you blame the protesters of Bt Brinjal for not trusting the Indian government to make unbiased opinions regarding the health and welfare of its people?
