Bollywood Stars To Campaign For UK MP Keith Vaz.

In Bollywood, India, Politics on April 10, 2010 at 9:28 am

Keith Vaz, the member of Parliament from Leicester East will bring in Shilpa Shetty to campaign for him.

“In India, Bollywood stars stand for parliament themselves,” says a member of Vaz’s campaign team. “It will be lovely to see them bring a bit of razzmatazz to the campaign.”

That should take the spotlight off the expenses claims controversy he is embroiled in. And this is also the guy that led protests against Salman Rushdie’s ‘Satanic Verses’ in 1989.

In February 1990, he wrote in the Guardian newspaper urging Salman Rushdie not to publish the book in paperback because “there is no such thing as absolute freedom of speech” (BBC profile of Keith Vaz)

Of course Indian media is more excited with the Bollywood connection in UK politics. Because…obviously the Bollywood razzmatazz is far more important than the profile of the politician.
