It’s Mother’s Day. Have You Told Her You Love Her?

In Event, India on May 9, 2010 at 7:34 am

Every single one of us on this planet is here because of a mother – from the fish, to the birds and animals, and us.  Except for seahorses that is. To all mothers everywhere – Happy Mother’s Day!

We’re putting the Google doodle because of all the information it helps us find…like these three Mother’s Day facts:

  1. India ranks a shockingly dismal 73 out of 77 countries ranked in Save The Children’s 2010 State Of The World’s Mothers Report. Norway is #1, US is #28, Germany #9, and Nigeria at #77 is the worst place in the world to be a mother.
  2. The driving force behind Mother’s Day was Anna Jarvis, who organized observances in Grafton, W.Va., and Philadelphia on May 10, 1908. As the annual celebration became popular around the country, Jarvis asked members of Congress to set aside a day to honor mothers. She finally succeeded in 1914, when Congress designated the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. (US Census Press Releases).
  3. Not all countries celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May. (Wikipedia)

Also head over and read Scientific American’s series on the Mother-Baby bond. You’ll find a dozen other science based reasons to tell your mom you love her today.
