Honour killings are not a women’s issue. Young men are being murdered in the name of ‘honour.’  Is this what these so called ‘honorable’ parents are raising their children for?  So they can control their destinies?

Men Of God Behaving Badly – Part VI

In Crime, Faith & Religion, India on May 24, 2010 at 8:30 pm

In this edition, it’s a Polish Roman Catholic priest abusing young boys in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

State prosecutors have accused Marcin Michael Strachanowski of handcuffing the 16-year-old former altar boy to a bed three years ago in the parish house where the priest lived and threatening to kill the youth if he spoke of the abuse. (HuffPo)

Previous chronicles of abuse of innocents by ‘religious’ leaders is here.  The international exposure and pressure needs to continue till every last one of the abusers is flushed out.

It’s Raining Fatawas From Deobund.

In Faith & Religion, India on May 17, 2010 at 6:13 pm

Today’s fatawa states Islam doesn’t permit celebrating birthdays – it’s a thing Jews and Christians do. In the past week the fatawas declare these acts against Islam –  buying insurance policies, women going to work, and working in banks. But you can read other fatawas…in English here, and while there, please donate using any one of the listed banks listed under the ‘System Of Donation’ tab.

Also from the article:

Leading Islamic body Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind’s spokesman Abdul Hameed Nomani had maintained that fatwas should not be generalised and should be seen in the context in which they have been issued.

A birthday is generally assumed world over to be the day one is born into this world. Pray tell, is there some other ‘context’ for birthdays that the rest of us are ignorant about?
