Will Obama’s White House Garden Vegetables Feature In State Dinner Menu?

We certainly hope so. It’s a source of pride for us here in the US as we watched the first lady plant the first garden in the White House since Eleanor Roosevelt’s victory garden in World War II. “Its most important role, Mrs. Obama said, will be to educate children about healthful, locally grown fruit and vegetables at a time when obesity and diabetes have become a national concern.” (NY TIMES)

So the Obamas get ready to host their first state dinner for India, and the guest Dr. Manmohan Singh is a vegetarian.  Go Mrs. O!  Wow ’em!

Building A Second Sun – $10billion…and Coconuts. Yes Coconuts.

This is an interesting model to watch coming out of India. While the threat of a billion people driving up carbon emissions and oil supplies, electric cars seem like the most sustainable option for India. (Full story at Treehugger)

The one question for India that remains unanswered is where is all the electricity going to come from? It’s controversial hydroelectric power has already proved environmentally unsound while displacing millions of indigenous people.
