It Happens Only Every 4 Years: The Football World Cup 2010!

In Sports on June 11, 2010 at 12:03 am

No, India is not playing this year, but as one of us is from Germany, we’re rooting for “Schwarz, Rot, Gold” (“Black, Red, Gold”).  But no matter what, let’s make it a fair competition, and put politics, religions, and unsportsmanlike conduct away for the next 4 weeks.

These two brothers from Toronto are getting a lot of buzz – Sim, 17, is 7-4, 285 pounds, and Tanveer, only 15, is 7-2, 260 pounds.  The height is working for them, but definitely seems like they’re still working on their game.

They might very well be the first Indians to have a real shot at the NBA.  Read their incredible hoop journey at Yahoo sports.

Indians’ “Doubles” Hope At French Open.

In India, Sports on May 24, 2010 at 4:40 pm

We were busy with Sunday errands yesterday, so missed out on the first day of this year’s Roland Garros 2010 – French Open, only to view the draws today, and see Somdev Devvarman out in the first round after a tough 5-set match against a Swiss.  He’s been the only Indian player to have made it into the Men’s Singles draw in the past 13 years!   Good job, Somdev, but where are all the other players?  One would think that most Indian players prefer the red clay courts and would do better on that surface.

As for men’s doubles, veteran Leander Paes (with lucky partner Lukas Dlouhy) is seeded No. 3; Mahesh Bhupathi, with partner Max Mirnyi, is seeded No. 5; and Rohan Bopanna is unseeded with his Pakistani partner, Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi!  For draws and schedule, visit here.

And no, no females representing India at all.  Sania Mirza had apparently pulled out due to do a wrist injury.
