Faces In Places And Shapes In Clouds.

In India, Strange Happenings on May 15, 2010 at 9:05 am

Anthropomorphism – there are Internet groups for that too!  Like this Flickr group of over 4000 members finding faces in everyday objects, or this one that rallies around shapes in the clouds.

Here’s a look at the psychology of why we do it

Anthropomorphism carries many important implications. For example, thinking of a nonhuman entity in human ways renders it worthy of moral care and consideration. In addition, anthropomorphized entities become responsible for their own actions — that is, they become deserving of punishment and reward. (Science Daily)

Indian ‘Girl Who Cries Blood’ Is A Scam?

In India, Strange Happenings, Viral Videos on May 12, 2010 at 8:41 pm

You’ve probably seen this video – it’s been floating around tha Interwebs for months now. We saw it a few months ago. Skeptics that we are, something wasn’t quite adding up. So we figured we’d wait a bit and see where this story headed.

Sanal Edamaruku, president of the Indian Rationalist Association, has just posted his theory over at the Guardian. He doesn’t definitively call it out as a hoax (at least not from our reading), but offers a hint at a more plausible explanation for the bleeding.

News That’s Not Making Headlines In Indian Media Today.

We scanned the usual suspects – Indian Express, Times of India, The Hindu, Telegraph, and Hindustan Times. No mention of the devastation in Bihar and West Bengal.

Up to one million people in eastern India are living out in the open after a tornado ripped through impoverished villages, flattening tens of thousands of homes, the United Nations and aid workers said on Thursday. (More devastating statistics in the Washington Post)

The IPL shenanigans and Swami Nityananda’s sex scandals are obviously so much more important than 1 million Indians are homeless, have no medical care, whose children are bathing in water contaminated by carcasses, and are at higher risk of becoming victims of human trafficking.

MP Rudranarayan Pani said it best, “Why are we obsessed with IPL rather than with BPL (below poverty line)”

“Pamella Bordes discovered living in Goa”

In India, Strange Happenings on March 1, 2010 at 6:02 pm

If you were around in the 80s, you know the name Pamella Bordes. The scandal she was involved in made headlines around the world. And this in the time when the Internet was not the Internet as we know it today.

So, in what obviously is a ‘let’s splash up old scandals story’ day, the Daily Mail goes digging for her and ‘discovers’ her living in Goa, India. But of course they couldn’t resist the below the belt swipes of her particular living situation today.

Which brings us to the question…why is this important to dredge up 21 years later? Pamela found her interests and her peace in Goa. Leave her the heck alone dudes!
