83-yr old Nek Chand didn’t know he was doing anything illegal when he started a little rock garden on government land in Chandigarh in the late 1950s. Using trash from broken lightbulbs, bangles and tires Mr. Chand probably didn’t realize he was pioneering what would become a rallying cry for environmentalists today – reduce and reuse.
Today a foundation set up in UK works with volunteers to keep the park open, and at 3000 visitors a day is one of the most popular sites in India to visit. (full story at GOOD)
